more every time I watch their movie.

Marty + Sarah {Super 8 Wedding Film}

Marty and Sarah had their wedding at an outdoor art gallery in the small town of Port Angeles, WA. I’m especially fond of this couple because they are my long lost 2nd cousins and I was able to meet them for the first time ever through photographing and filming their wedding! This Super 8 film is a little Christmas present that we put together for them just because we love them. When Anna and I hung out with Marty and Sarah for their engagement session back in April they introduced us to one of their new favorite bands, The Good The Bad and The Queen. The song ‘Nature Springs’ works perfect for this moody footage! The movie takes a bit of a creepy turn with melodic whistling during a romantic walk through a dark green forest. It’s very unique and very lovely!

While the movie is loading view their wedding images, day after shoot, and even their engagement pictures!

Matt + Ali {Super 8 Wedding Film}

Hot off the press; I am thrilled to publish Matt and Ali’s Super 8 Wedding Film!

When Ali approached me to photograph her wedding she inquired about video because she is an actress in the movie industry and felt that it was so important to not only get photographs, but also motion picture. I pitched to her the whole Super 8 vibe and she fell in love with the vintage, artistic alternative to video.

I partner with Simon Jones at 7&8 Design to produce Super 8 films for my couples. Simon and I shoot it together on the day along with photographing the wedding. Then Simon edits the film beautifully to a soundtrack that fits the couple and mood of the wedding day. Matt & Ali’s full movie is about 11 minutes (3 songs worth) and what you see here is the highlights of the day. I love how you can capture and show off a whole wedding in one song. Enjoy the heck out of it! I know we do.

Matt + Brooke {Super 8 Wedding Film}

Its interesting how things come back around. I really believe Super 8 is going to make a comeback thanks to a lot of artists who have been leading the way. I am so excited to begin to incorporate it into what I offer my clients. It has a timeless energy that is so full of emotion and romance.

Matt + Brooke had a perfectly beautiful wedding in San Clemente, CA. While the movie is loading view their wedding images featured on my blog. Enjoy!

Chris + Lindsey {Super 8 Wedding Film}

I knew I had to shoot Super 8 film at Lindseys wedding. She is so drama that she needed to be the star of her very own wedding music video! Chris is the complete opposite of her which is probably why they say that opposites attract. You can view all of their lovely wedding images here.

We chose a Brandi Carlile song {Closer To You} for this film because it is really upbeat and has great energy which I thought compliments my {music video} style shooting. I am so excited to offer this years wedding clients the option of having Super 8. It is only going to get better and better. Enjoy!

Introducing Super 8 Films!!!

I am thrilled to announce that I will be offering Super 8 Cinema coverage for all of my 2008 weddings and beyond! Super 8 is like having a music video of your wedding day. I saw my first Super 8 film at Jose Villas office a little over a year ago. I fell in love immediately! I have always wanted to experiment with video but never felt justified to divide my affection for photography, until I met Super 8. I simply adore its dreamy quality and its emotionally saturated presentation. It is a bit like photography but with movement and music.

Jose offered to shoot a little Super 8 at our wedding and what he captured was just as amazing and priceless as our photography coverage by Jeff Newsom. We adore our still photographs, but we also are so in love with the Super 8 that Jose shot.Together they tell our story in two distinctly different forms which compliment and express our most amazing day in such a powerful way.

All that said, I have for the past year been working on developing Super 8 Cinema as a product that I can offer my couples. Jose actually gave me my first roll of film to test out my Super 8 camera. My assistant Simon and I traded off shooting it at Mike and Alisas wedding last summer. This is the result!

I have two more movies to showcase as Super 8 samples. I will spread them out over the next couple of weeks.

Jose Villa's Super 8

Words. Words can't describe the gratitude we feel towards Jose Villa for shooting Super 8 at our wedding. The moment I saw this medium I fell in love with it's timeless nature and it's ability to convey emotion through movement and song. It is the icing on our wedding memory cake. Every time my wife watches this she has to be holding my hand and she most certainly always sheds a few tears! The perfect thing about this medium is the fact that it is completely share-able. If we had a 30-60 minute wedding DVD, I highly doubt that most of our friends would bear sitting through a showing. The complete edit is less than 12 minutes with a few songs highlighting all of the significant moments of the day. Gina at Lola Video edited it perfectly and made up this abbreviated version for blog-ability. Thank you Jose! And thank You Gina!

I recently bought my own Super 8 camera and will be offering the service in the future to all of my wedding clients. It has infected my creativity and I can’t wait to start shooting it!

Jose and I had a shoot off during the family pictures. I think I may have lost. My digital elf was no match for the power of his Contax!
