Goodie Two Sleeves!

This is a fun photo I took for my friend's clothing company, Goodie Two Sleeves. They make the coolest and most creative humor tees around. I actually photographed the owner, Gabe Connor's, wedding last summer. Gabe is super duper creative and is going to make the coolest cartoon someday. I can't wait! I shot this picture for an art book that will be distributed at Pool Trade Show in August. It was really fun shooting my friend Corey, all the while envisioning little cartoon characters racing him to the finish. The poor burger is so sad to be in the rear. ;(

Troy + Jannette

Troy + Jannette had the most simple and beautiful wedding on a Tuesday night at Avila Beach. I felt honored because I was like the only guest. It was just them, their kids, the minister and me. I guess I wasn't technically a guest, however, after they kissed I did feel inclined to applaud. Because the bridal party was all underage I did have to sign the marriage certificate as a witness. It’s funny, but I was a bit nervous to sign it because it seemed like such an honor.

Though I didn’t have a lot of time with Troy and Jannette before they swept off to their private reception dinner, it didn’t take me long to fall in love with their new little family. During the ceremony they gave the kids bracelets with a message inscribed ‘follow your heart’. What a beautiful beginning to a brand new family!

Michael + Katie

Michael and Katie are getting married in oh… like 3 or 4 days (depending on if you count today). I actually grew up down the street from Katie but haven't had the honor of getting to know her until now. I knew Michael a bit during high school and it is a trip to see him 10 years later all growed-up.

We had a really fun engagement session last week wandering the streets of San Luis Obispo. We were determined to find some new territory. Thanks to my new business partner and wife we sure did! A parking lot and a little hop over a fence was all it took. Here are a few of my favorites from the day.

I'm really looking forward to this Saturday; it is going to be a blast!

My Wife on Stretched Canvas!

My wife was and is the most beautiful bride ever! The hardest part of not photographing our wedding was watching the sunlight and wind dance through her golden hair while she was standing in the greenest field ever and not having my professional camera. Jeff Newsom did a perfect job, but as a photographer, when I see beauty I want to capture it myself.

Well, thanks to Eagle Castle Winery, I got my chance to photograph my most beautiful bride. This image was printed on a 20x30 canvas for the castle. They will have her on display in the tasting room I believe. If you happen by for a taste of their most excellent wine go check her out. I mean don't check her out. You know what I mean. ;)

Queensberry Album: Garrett + Ashlee

We just received Garrett + Ashlee's Queensberry album from New Zealand and we are so pleased with how wonderful it turned out! Queensberry is by far the most sophisticated, elegant and timeless album company in the world (in our 'professional' opinion). This album is designed here in our studio and sent all the way across the world to be printed, matted and bound exactly as we created it to be. There is really no limit to the design except our creativity. We try to keep the pages simple and profound. We strive to show off each image as an individual work of art that can stand alone while demonstrating the power that a group of images has to tell a story.

I love the way we can insert flip pages so that the album can open up revealing 4 panels of images spanning a length of 60 inches. The pages above of Ashlee riding in the horse drawn carriage to her groom open up to reveal different moments of the ceremony displayed sequentially in the 2 pages below.

These next to layouts were actually images we shot a month after their wedding. It turned out that we ran out of light and time on their wedding day to take beautiful portraits of the bride and groom. Instead of pushing it we decided to do another shoot at the golf course another day so that we could have a dramatic climax for the album. I am so thankful they agreed to dress up again for an after-wedding-shoot! Check out the full story here.

We also love the 7 inch parent albums that are exact flush mount replicas of the full album complete with flip out pages.

Jerome + Rebekah, 7.7.07

I know I'm blogging an enormous amount of pictures about this wedding, but I don't care! It's safe to say this was the most 'different' wedding I have had the pleasure of photographing... With skeet-shooting, a motocross race, and all night dancing; this party was off the hook!

I photographed Jerome + Rebekah's engagement pictures a couple of months ago. Check them out here.

Since getting to know their story I understand why they have such a huge community of family and friends around that love them. They are warm and welcoming and besides… they know how to throw a great party! And that’s what this wedding was; an extension of Jerome and Rebekah. So much so that Jerome convinced Rebeckah to allow guns and motorcycles. Rebekah didn't care as long as she had her 6 hours on the dance floor.

Rebekah's father is the keyboard player for the San Luis Jazz band. They played all sorts of covers including surprises like, 'Can't touch this' and 'Big Butts'. It was hilarious because the guy on guitar (who looks as white as can be) sang the rap songs! When the Jazz band finally wrapped up at 11:00 a D.J. was standing by to cover the rest of the night. I left around 11:30 but the party wasn't supposed to be done until at least 2:00am! If I didn't have my wife waiting for me at home, I would have stayed. Thanks guys for an amazing wedding party and for sharing your lives with me!
